Rainbet provably fair: verify a bet in six steps

Rainbet provably fair games let you check a result instead of trusting it. Each round is fixed by three values before you bet, and Rainbet shows you how to recalculate any past bet from them.

What does provably fair mean at Rainbet?

Rainbet provably fair means the outcome of a round is decided by values set before your bet, and those values can be inspected afterwards. Rainbet can't change a result once it knows your stake, and you can prove that it didn't.

What are the three values?

ValueWho sets itWhat it does
Client seedYou. It can be edited at any timeAdds your own input to every result
Server seedRainbet. Shown to you hashed before you betCommits Rainbet to a value it can't change later
NonceA counter. Starts at 0 and rises by one per betMakes each bet on the same seed pair different

Why is the server seed hashed?

The hash lets Rainbet commit to a server seed without revealing it. A hash is a one-way fingerprint: easy to produce from the seed, and not reversible back into it. You see the fingerprint before you bet, so the seed behind it is already fixed.

When the seed is revealed later, you hash it yourself. If the fingerprint matches the one you were shown, the seed is the same one that was in place when you bet.

How do you verify a Rainbet bet?

Rainbet sets out six steps.

  1. Open the Fair Play tab on any Original to see the active seeds. The server seed is shown hashed.
  2. Place a bet.
  3. Rotate the seed pair. This reveals the unhashed server seed for your past bets.
  4. Go to Bets and click the bet ID.
  5. Click the Provably Fair link on the bet to see the values used.
  6. Confirm the result through the Verify tab, or with the game's published algorithm.

A server seed is only revealed after you rotate it. While a seed pair is still active, its bets can't be fully verified yet, which is by design.

Which games are provably fair?

The 15 Rainbet Originals are provably fair: Plinko, Dice, Limbo, Keno, Coinflip, Mines, Hilo, Chicken Cross, Tower, Wheel, War, Moles, Rock Paper Scissors, Blackjack and Roulette. Each has a Fair Play tab on its game page.

Game typeProvably fair? What fairness rests on
Rainbet OriginalsYesClient seed, hashed server seed and nonce
Multiplayer gamesBy a different methodEOS blockchain blocks, according to Rainbet
Slots and software tablesNoCertified random number generators audited by independent labs
Live dealer tablesNoPhysical cards and wheels in audited studios

How do multiplayer games differ?

Rainbet says multiplayer games such as Case Battles and EOS Roulette take their randomness from EOS blockchain blocks. A block is produced in public and can't be picked by a player or by the house. Rainbet describes this as stronger than seed-based fairness.

Should you change your client seed?

You can change your client seed whenever you like, and there's no harm in doing it. A fresh client seed gives you a part in the result that Rainbet couldn't have known when it committed to its server seed.

What can't provably fair tell you?

Provably fair proves a result wasn't tampered with. It doesn't change the odds. A game with a 96.00% maximum RTP keeps its house edge whether or not you verify every round.

  • It shows the result was fixed before your bet.
  • It shows the result didn't depend on your stake.
  • It doesn't make a losing run less likely.
  • It doesn't apply to slots or live tables.

What does a check look like on Dice?

Take three bets on Dice with one seed pair. The first uses nonce 0, the second nonce 1 and the third nonce 2. The seeds stay the same for all three, and the changing nonce is what gives each bet its own roll.

After you rotate the pair, open any of the three from Bets. The Provably Fair link shows the client seed, the revealed server seed and the nonce for that bet. Run them through the Verify tab and the roll that comes out should match the roll you were paid on.

The same steps work on any of the 15 Originals, because every Originals game page has a Fair Play tab.

Where to try it

Any game on Rainbet Originals will do. Rainbet Dice is a simple one to start with, since each result is a single number. Why this matters when you're weighing up the site is covered on is Rainbet legit.
